AIC Seminar: Fabrizio Difonzo

Accept our invitation to the seminar organized by the AIC research group with the support of the RCI project. Assistant Professor Fabio Difonzo from the University of Bari Aldo Moro and our former colleague will visit the department on September 14, 2022 to give a lecture about his recent work. Meet us in the seminar room (KN:E-205) at 10:30.

Fabio Vito Difonzo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Bari Aldo Moro. His mathematical research interests include Filippov-type differential systems and discontinuous ODEs, numerical dynamical systems and numerical analysis, Richards' equation for water infiltration and advection-diffusion PDEs, fractional calculus, optimization and operative research, delay differential equations, differential inclusions and foundations of Machine Learning. Fabio is a former researcher in our department and closely collaborates with us to this day.

Stochastic Langevin Differential Inclusions with Applications to Machine Learning

In this work we aim at understanding more about convergence of machine-learning algorithms, taking into account the fact that nonsmoothness in the potential functions therein is unavoidable. More specifically, we show some new foundational results regarding the flow and asymptotic properties of Langevin-type Stochastic Differential Inclusions under assumptions appropriate to the machine-learning settings. In particular, we show strong existence of the solution, as well as asymptotic minimization of the canonical Free Energy Functional.
